The 2017 Audi A3 is not expected to be a new model from the ground up, but more of a facelift. The new updates would include some minor cosmetic and mechanical modifications to the models that would include revised headlamps, tail lamps and a new engine.

Audi has launched the updated A3 sedan in India almost two months after the launch of its drop-top sibling, the A3 Cabriolet, in February this year. Priced from Rs 30.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the entry model, the updated A3 gets refreshed styling bringing it in line with the larger A4, along with a new petrol engine.

Instead of the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine, the new Audi A3 now gets a 1.4-litre TFSI under the hood. It produces 150 Ps of maximum power and has a max torque figure of 250 Nm. The car comes with a seven-speed S-Tronic auto gearbox and has an increased claimed mileage of 19.2 kmpl.

While the diesel 2.0-litre engine remains the same, there are a host of other cosmetic changes that have been incorporated in both powertrains.

The interiors get an update as well. The cabin is now all-black, with a added creature comforts like climate control, seven-inch infotainment display that works well with the new parking sensors. Also added to this list is a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charging point that sits at the front armrest.

Coming to the engine, the old 1.8-litre model will be replaced by a 1.4-litre unit that produces 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. The same will be paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission that as always, sends power to the front wheels.

Audi India has been in a phase of consolidation as is looking at a sustainable number one position in the premium car market. Audi also plans to introduce models which have never been in India before.
